Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life? —Mary Oliver

The full moon of Jan 1 (6:24 pm PT) will kick off the new year with the biggest and brightest supermoon of 2018. This is the closest the moon will be to Earth all year long, and a promising time to initiate growth and transformation in your life.

New Year’s resolutions will be especially potent now, so write them down and speak them aloud. This full moon can even help break long-standing habits and/or addiction patterns with empowering and transformative steps toward real change.

The super full moon will be in the fierce Vedic lunar sign of Ardra. Symbolized by a teardrop, Ardra is a star of raw emotion, deep devotion, and frustration. Ardra shakes the heart awake with the inspiring energy of creativity, love and passion.

Ardra full moon holds the unwieldy power of Lord Shiva in the form of Rudra – the destroyer.  Pictured as a celestial hunter who shoots arrows of destruction and lightning bolts that cut through the darkness of ignorance, Rudra holds the power to destroy our fears and doubts with a single blow.

One of Rudra’s many names is the “the howler,” and this is certainly the kind of full moon that could make wolves howl – both literally and figuratively. Take a moment on this full moon to listen closely to your heart. What is calling out to you?

Ardra is also called the “star of storms,” and like a storm, it has the dramatic ability to mix things up, while nourishing seeds of possibility. The light of this full moon can purify the atmosphere of toxins and clear away unexpressed anxieties, but remember that sometimes a little confusion is needed for healthier patterns to emerge.

This full moon could feel restless and intense for some people, so be patient with yourself and others. Transformative solutions are around the corner, as things naturally clear away.

Ardra is the bright red star (Betelgeuse) in the constellation of Orion the hunter.

Take heed, Venus, the planet of love and desire, has recently disappeared from the morning sky. As she descends deeper into the netherworld of invisibility (combustion), relationships may feel off kilter. With the added karmic influence of Saturn, realizations around boundaries, respect, and finances could emerge. Venus will join the sun in combustion by January 7.

An auspicious gaze from optimistic Jupiter and mystical Neptune gives intuitive insight that can heighten the emotional intelligence of this lunar cycle. Now is the time to recall what is truly precious and meaningful in your life. If you are ready for change, this wild Ardra moon will have a lasting transformative impact beyond the purifying storm.
