The total phase of the eclipse occurs between 9:58 a.m. and 11:34 a.m. PT, reaching its maximum at 10:46 a.m. PT. Mantras, meditation, and prayers done at this time are said to be exponentially powerful.
According to Vedic Astrology, the solar eclipse falls in the area of the sky called Ashlesha, the snake star. Ashlesha is a sensitive and psychic part of sidereal Cancer, which is connected to the healing power of emotions, hypnotic states, and herbal medicines. This eclipse is caused by Ketu, the giver of liberation (mokshakaraka), which dissolves blockages and helps free you from the past. Karmic patterns, limiting beliefs passed down through ancestral heritage or stemming from childhood, can transform now and allow for new beliefs and feelings to form.
The narrow path of totality crosses Greenland, western Iceland, Spain, and a small area of Portugal. A partial eclipse will be visible throughout much of Europe and in parts of North America and northwestern Africa.
Eclipses are associated with collective crisis and social upheaval, especially involving racial or class conflicts and the downfall of kings (governments). The regions hit by the path of the eclipse are especially affected. Europe—and Spain in particular—is facing amplified political tension and wildfires, including the recent and shocking tragedy involving a giant group of migrants attempting to enter the Spanish territory of Ceuta.
Furthermore, this eclipse is dangerously hemmed between fiery Mars and Ketu, forming a papa kartari yoga. Mars is the god of war, while Ketu is the hot, fiery, and liberating tail of the eclipse snake. Prayers for peace are exponentially remedial on this volatile solar eclipse.
This solar eclipse also exposes corruption and weakness in government systems. Ketu is now moving through Magha, the star of kings, ancestors, and hierarchal power. Around August 23, Ketu will cross President Donald Trump’s ascendant in Magha at the same moment it joins with the sun, making this time a particularly sensitive period for his leadership and public position. The shake-up and restructuring of governments, financial systems, and established authority is part of a larger collective expression of this eclipse.
For over a year Rahu and Ketu—the north and south nodes—have been transiting sidereal Aquarius and Leo, but this solar eclipse is the first of a series of eclipses in Cancer and Capricorn.
Cancer is a sign connected to nourishment, family, emotional security, and the heart. It’s also a water sign, and this eclipse can bring focus on water sources and seaways, as well as deeper lessons around emotional nourishment, relationships, and the places where we seek safety.
Rahu and Ketu officially enter sidereal Capricorn and Cancer on December 5, although one final lunar eclipse will occur in Leo in February 2027.
Love-focused Venus is now debilitated in Virgo and receiving challenging aspects from fiery Mars and icy Saturn. This may make relationships and finances unclear or run hot and cold. Be patient with others, and remember that you cannot truly judge another person without seeing life through their eyes.
The Ashlesha Solar Eclipse could be a critical point of no return in some area of your life.
