Light often comes in the darkest of times. The new moon of Nov 7 (8:02 am PT) ignites a flame of hope that chases the shadows of doubt away.  This new moon opens opportunities for new growth, wealth and a higher awareness of your personal power.

In India, this new moon is the auspicious Diwali, a 5-night Hindi festival that symbolizes the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and hope over despair.

On the eve of the new moon (the dark moon night: Nov 6 US/Europe), homes are decorated with lights, and candles called diyas are lit to welcome in the blessings of Laksmi, goddess of wealth and good fortune, and Ganesha, breaker of obstacles.
The new moon will be in the area of the sky called Vishaka, the “star of purpose.”  Vishaka awakens ambition and magnifies the transformative power of fire.   Since ancient times, the rites of fire have been used to burn through creative blocks and fears.  Fire sharpens concentration, empowers the mind, and increases the light of clarity.

This light is said to reveal truth and keeps the world in order (dharma).  The victory of light over darkness is celebrated on this new moon, as Lord Ram’s triumph over the terrible demon Ravana, and the return to his rightful throne.

After a combative 6-month transit of Mars in his exaltation sign of Capricorn, the fiery and aggressive energy of the red-planet is now cooling down in the contemplative sign of Aquarius, possibly bringing resolution to long-standing conflicts.

On the feminine side, Venus Retrograde is stepping back into her power.  After weeks of a volatile and transformative combustion with the sun, the goddess of love can now be seen rising as Morning Star (light-bringer.)  Issues of the heart may reach a passionate turning point now as Venus rises like a phoenix from the fire.  This is a powerful time to reconnect with your sense of independence, self-respect, and personal boundaries, while deepening your understanding of needs and desires. On this Vishaka New Moon, light a candle for Diwali and focus your mind on the element of fire. Remember its power to transform darkness into light and clarify truth. Offer your hopes and wishes into its flame.
