It’s time to reset, cut cords, and call in a fresh perspective. The New Moon of May 16 (1:00 pm PT) is clearing away the past and bringing in a clarifying new lunar cycle.
The day leading up to this New Moon (May 15/16) is Shani Amavasya, the sacred dark moon of Saturn that carries the weighty and wise influence of karma, responsibility, and life purpose.
Saturn is called the “Lord of Karma” and giver of limitations, but he is also the teacher of life’s most important lessons. This year Shani Amavasya falls on Saturday (the day of Saturn), giving it extra spiritual power. This is an opportunity to bring healing light to difficult karma, old burdens, and the inner processes that shape our path.
The new moon on May 16 falls in the area of the sky called Krittika Nakshatra, symbolized by the sharp razor of discernment. Krittika is also ruled by Agni, the god of fire. This new moon stokes a fire of awareness, helping us discern new pathways of growth, healing, and opening.

Ketu in Leo is changing collective identities and outdated models of leadership, while Rahu in Aquarius pulls us toward the future, toward networks, technology, community, and new social patterns. Kala Sarpa Yoga is highly activated May 12 – May 22 and June 6 – June 18.
Lord of karma, Saturn, is in sidereal Pisces and casts its gaze (dristi) on this Krittika new moon. There is an opportunity to reset and recalibrate to a higher level of spiritual maturity and emotional truth at this time. On this new moon and Shani Amavasya, try to do things slowly, simply, and humbly. Acts of charity and service are also highly supportive.
