The Full Moon of May 12 (9:55 am PT) comes with a breakthrough in vision, purpose and courage.  If you’ve been under a spell of uncertainty, it’s time to snap out of it. This full moon brings in an enlightening wave of clarity.

The full moon falls in the area of the sky called Vishakha nakshatra, the star of purpose. Vishakha promotes clear focus and has the shakti (energy) to “achieve many goals.”  The symbol of this lunar mansion is a triumphal archway.

Indra, the Vedic chief of the demigods, and Agni, the fire god of spiritual truth, both rule over this full moon.  Together they burn away confusion and self-doubt by stoking a fire of courage and conviction.

This full moon is also celebrated as Buddha Purnima; the birthday and day of enlightenment of the Buddha who taught illumination through the steady focus of mind. Meditation can be enhanced on this full moon, as Vishakha als0 amplifies concentration and one-pointed focus.

Expansive Jupiter enters sidereal Gemini on May 14, turning the focus of dharma toward evolving philosophies, and belief systems —particularly in the realms of communication, markets, and media. This transit coincides with a pivotal moment in history, the rise of a new pope, and big changes surrounding travel, education, and currencies.

Just four days later, on May 18, the eclipse axis—Rahu and Ketu—will shift into Aquarius and Leo, marking a significant karmic turning point. This shift initiates a new 1.5 year cycle of transformative eclipses that will accelerate transformation for Aquarius and Leo– Globalization, autocracies, evolving social networks, and technological innovation will be evolving themes, as Rahu crosses Aquarius, grassroots social movements rise up, and collective calls for reform and social justice will increase.

The transit of Rahu into Aquarius also marks the end of the fear-amplifying Shrapit Yoga and initiates a new cycle of action and recovery, particularly in the areas that have been under pressure in your life since March 29.  For more on this, check out the Saturn in Pisces Predictions + Horoscopes class (pre-recorded and available now).

The influence of Kala Sarpa Yoga—when the seven visible planets align within the axis of Ketu and Rahu—continues intermittently until July 27, with an undercurrent of aggression and unpredictability. This is a particularly inflammatory time that is likely to escalate conflicts like the Indian-Pakistan war.

Kala Sarpa Yoga is also referred to as Kala Amrita Yoga when all planets move toward Ketu, and is said to amplify spiritual influences. However, both Kala Sarpa and Kala Amrita Yoga are considered destabilizing configurations, capable of triggering sudden events, like scandals, war, and natural disturbances like earthquakes.

Despite collective upheaval, the Vishakha Full Moon shines a ray of light through the storm clouds of recent weeks. This is a powerful time to re-center yourself, reflect, and lay the groundwork for your future goals. Even when it feels as if you’ve lost a battle, this full moon carries the promise of victory in the long run.

How these planetary transits affect you personally depends on your birth chart.  Book a Vedic Astrology reading to learn more.
