PictureThe Ashwini Kumara

The full moon of Oct. 27, 2015 (5:05 AM PDT) will bring a dazzling shower of opportunity for increasing wealth and prosperity that may be felt in our lives for months to come. Energetic channels previously blocked can suddenly be released, ushering in a flood of possibility when it comes to financial and health-related improvements.

This high-energy moon – said to open a portal to Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of wealth and prosperity – is believed to shower the night sky with a rain of nectar, or Amrita Barkha. Lakshmi’s potent shakti will infuse the moon’s rays with her divine feminine power, detoxifying our bodies, and increasing the flow of abundance and harmony in our lives.

Sweet, creamy liquids are especially absorbent of this auspicious moon nectar. To make your own nectar-charged “moon milk,” leave out a glass of sweetened milk of any kind – for instance, coconut, almond, or dairy – on the night of the full moon, and share it with friends and family to increase health, wealth and prosperity. In India, they often use Kheer, a sweet milk rice pudding, which you can make at home.

Transiting the area of the sky known as Ashwini, which relates to the energy of the horse, this full moon has the power to generate new streams of income and send you galloping off into uncharted territory. If you have felt stuck in the financial or health sectors of your life, the good news is that fast-paced Ashwini may open the floodgates to healing, leaving you feeling healthier and more prosperous than you have all year.

According to Hindu mythology, Ashwini is ruled by a pair of twin brothers born from the union of the sun and the intellect. It is said that Sanjana, a female deity who represents the human intellect, after taking the form of a horse, birthed her sons through each of her nostrils. In the practice of yogic breathing, the nostrils are closely related to the nadis, the central channels for moving prana, or lifeforce, through our bodies.

The rays of this full moon have the power to re-energize and rebalance these key pranic channels, restoring a sense of health and wellbeing and increasing our vitality. Be sure to take deep, conscious breaths in order to extract the maximum benefit from the moon’s healing nectar.

If we’re not careful, Ashwini’s powerful force can knock us off our feet. The ebb and flow of prana may become especially turbulent, and you could find your energy rising sky high, then plummeting just as fast.  Ashwini can also create agitation, and may find us fidgeting in our seats or hurrying to arrive.  Animals, especially horses, can be easily spooked at this time.

In India, this will be the harvest moon, also known as Sharad Purnima. It marks the end of monsoon season and the height of a lunar cycle honoring the goddess Lakshmi.  This may be an excellent night to stay up late and do some moon-bathing.  In some regions, it is said that Lakshmi flies through the night sky, blessing whomever she finds awake with material prosperity. Sharad Purnima is also the full moon of the legendary Rasa Lila, Lord Krishna’s ecstatic dance of divine love. In Hindu mythology, this was the night that Radha, Krishna’s consort, and the young women of the village snuck out of their homes for a blissful evening of dance and play with Lord Krishna.

To sweeten the pot further, the planet Mars, which rules this month’s full moon, is sitting in a stunning triple conjunction with two of the most beneficent and brilliant of the planets, Jupiter and Venus. This beautiful conjunction can be seen rising in the early morning hours, in the romantic star of Purva Phalguni, inspiring our hearts to make new connections and deepen commitments to those we love. The influence of Venus will enhance Lakshmi’s prosperous gifts, while Jupiter, the bringer of good luck and fortune, will inspire us to perform good deeds – and maybe even come to someone’s rescue.

Don’t miss this opportunity to ask the universe for your heart’s desire, and stand ready and open to receive. This full moon has the power to grant wishes, heal wounds, and increase prosperity at every level. Soak it up!
