A blood moon lunar eclipse on March 3 is igniting fires of transformation within and without. Eclipse brings shockwaves, epiphanies, and sudden shifts, especially the days leading up to the eclipse, and this one carries an extra volatility within it.

This lunar eclipse is triggered by the tail of the shadow serpent, Ketu, as it dissolves karmic bonds and cords of past attachments. This lunar eclipse triggers an inner revolution that can free us from beliefs that no longer serve us and bring us into an awakening.

In Vedic astrology, this eclipse lands in Purva Phalguni—a lunar mansion symbolized by a wedding bed or ripe fruit. It’s a fertile part of the sky tied to creativity, heart connection, and family attachment, and it’s found in sidereal Leo, on the tail of the lion.

Just days before this eclipse, a new wave of Leo-like shock waves began when the United States and Israel launched a major strike campaign against Iran, codenamed “Operation Roaring Lion.” (Israeli) Eclipses have long been associated with violent upheaval and the collapse of old power structures—especially when in Leo, where the eclipse hits kings and royalty. It’s reported that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed in the violent attacks on Mar 1.

The blood moon lunar eclipse is visible in the U.S., with the darkest phase running from 3:04 to 4:03 a.m. Pacific.

Mercury Retrograde chaos continues with travel delays, miscommunications, and major detours. Take precautions by keeping deadlines flexible, double-confirming plans, and backing up hard drives when possible. Mercury stations direct on March 20.

Adding to the turbulent astro weather, warrior Mars entered Aquarius on Feb 22 and is now traveling with Rahu, the eclipse serpent’s mouth. This fiery alignment (Rakshasa/Demon Yoga) is associated with spikes in aggression, conflict, and accidents. This influence continues until April 2, and it looks especially volatile as Mercury Retrograde aligns with Mars on March 14–15. Keep it simple and avoid travel at this time.

According to Vedic belief, Durga Devi, a fierce mother goddess who cuts through chaos and protects life, is the best remedy for Rahu’s rakshasa forces. If you’re feeling the stress of this lunar eclipse and the Mars–Rahu pressure cooker, saying mantras to Durga can steady the mind and strengthen discernment.

This lunar eclipse is also the Holi full moon in India, the festival of colors that marks the turn toward spring. Holi is celebrated with fire: the Holika Dahan bonfires that symbolize burning away past grievances and resentments.

Eclipses can also open the mind to see things from a different angle. Dramatic and positive new perspectives and attitudes can awaken at this time. This is an excellent full moon/lunar eclipse for meditation, prayer, and deep inner work. Mantra and prayer are exponentially powerful during the hours of the eclipse. One of the best ways to channel this potent energy is to offer prayers for peace, in your life and for the world.
