The full moon on August 18/19 is said to magnify the healing power of music, rhythm and dance, and can bridge long lost connections, and heal separations.
Housed in the area of the sky called Dhanishta, the “Star of Symphony,” this nakshatra delivers the divine medicine of rhythm and harmony through the power of sacred sound, or nada — the sound of creation.

Dhanishta is symbolized by the cosmic drum that Lord Shiva plays in his dance of creation and destruction, the tandava. This full moon offers the wisdom of Lord Shiva’s ever-changing, yet always harmonized celestial dance. Dhanishta enhances your ability to be in sync with your feelings, as well as those of the people around you.
This mystical full moon is ruled by Saturn, which is positioned nearby in sidereal Aquarius and opposing the goddess of love, Venus. Although difficult, conflict can open windows of understanding now, and trust, security, and the true meaning of love can be upgraded.
In recent weeks, the weight of Mercury Retrograde may have caused delays, failures, or dead ends, but this full moon offers a break in the inertia of recent days. Use this time to unhook yourself from any holding patterns or hesitations that may have kept you stagnant.
This full moon is also celebrated in India as the birthday of the goddess Gayatri, the mother of the Gods and protector of sacred knowledge. She is also known as the mother of chandas — patterns of rhythm and sound. Gayatri is the name of a sacred poetic meter that preserves and protects the power of words chanted in it.
Music and rhythm has long been a source of comfort and solace in times of stress. Chanting mantra, sound baths or just listening to or playing an instrument can bring a profound focus now.
