The new moon of May 26 (8:02 pm pt) marks the end of a challenging astrological cycle. You may feel exhausted, turned upside down, or left standing on a threshold—this new moon is a time to reorient, reset, and root into a new path.

The new moon falls in the area of the sky called Rohini nakshatra, the star of ascent. Marked by a brilliant red star named Aldebaran, Rohini symbolizes the red eye of Taurus the bull. It’s said that Rohini is the moon’s favorite lunar mansion, and that under its creative influence, love, art and creativity thrive.

This Rohini/Taurus new moon is ruled by heart-centered Venus, who after a nebulous four month transit in Pisces, has reached a karmic finish-line. On May 30 at 11:00 pm PT, Venus crosses from watery Pisces into fiery Aries. In Vedic Astrology, this transformative passage is called gandanta, meaning “karmic knot,”—a place of unraveling the tangles of karmic. This is a critical moment for the planet of love and wealth, as she falls off the threshold of endings into new beginnings.

Energy and courage are rising after June 6 when Mars transits into fiery Leo. Warrior Mars has been debilitated in the emotional sign of Cancer since April, where his fire has been dampened and nearly extinguished. Clarity and enthusiasm are returning after Mars crosses the gandanta (karmic knot) on June 6.

Take heed, the influence of Kala Sarpa Yoga (also called Kala Amrit)—when the seven visible planets align within the axis of Ketu and Rahu—continues. Mars enters Leo and joins the eclipse snake’s tail , Ketu, adding a sting to conflicts and increasing flammability on collective issues, such as war, scandal, and natural disasters.

Things will speed up after Mercury, the quick planet of communication, enters sidereal Gemini on June 5 to join expansive Jupiter. This is a positive time for travel, education and writing.  Mercury will be in Gemini until the solstice on June 21.

The waning dark moon of May 26 is also Shani Jayanti, the birthday of Saturn. Known as the lord of justice, or Father Time, Saturn is the most important planet for spiritual growth and maturity.  The hours leading up to this new moon are potent for spiritual practices like fasting, meditation, and selfless acts of service.

Saturn’s recent entrance into Pisces marks the end of an era: a new 2.5-year cycle of spiritual growth and restructuring. If you’d like to know how Saturn in Pisces affects you,  check out the Saturn in Pisces Predictions + Horoscopes class (pre-recorded and available now).
